Monte Sano State Park : ウィキペディア英語版 | Monte Sano State Park
Monte Sano State Park is a Alabama state park and mountaintop retreat located in Huntsville on the eastern portion of the top and slopes of Monte Sano Mountain. The park has 1930s-era, Civilian Conservation Corps–built rustic cottages, hiking trails with scenic overlooks, picnic areas, and modern campsites. The park opened August 25, 1938, and was added to the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage on June 19, 1996. ==Name== "Monte Sano" means "healthful mountain", and is the eponymous name of the mountain which serves as the main feature of the park. The name derives from the early 19th century tradition of sending those suffering from diphtheria, cholera and yellow fever to retreats on the mountain. A week's stay cost $11 and included amusements like bowling and, horseback riding, croquet and lawn tennis. Many of these largely disappeared after vaccines and treatments were developed.
